CHENNAI, SEPT 3: Top seeded Poulomi Ghatak and Mouma Das pair of India were toppled by the Chinese Taipei8217;s Lu Yunfeng-Panli-Chun combine in the semi-finals of the girls section of the Indian Oil Servo 7th Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship this evening.

All the eight seeds in both boys8217; and girls8217; section had a smooth start with easy victories in totally one-sided affair here this morning.

Top-seeded Korean Ryu Seung Min outplayed Maldivian Ahmed Thamooh 21-5 21-9 and the second seed Subhajit Saha of India had things easy against Aleksandr Kartsen of Turkministan 21-9, 21-8.

In another event, China8217;s Chen Qing and Zhang Fang faced stiff challenge from the Korean duo of Moon Hyun Jung and Kim Kyung Ha before the latter surrendered at 21-17 23-25 21-7. After the Chinese pair won the first set after some sweat, they were put to severe test by the never-say-die Koreans in the second set which was a close one won by them at 25-23.

In the singles event, third-seeded Yung To Long Hong Kong had the measure of Salavddin Abo Taher Bangladesh 21-13, 21-9 and China8217;s Tang Peng met initial problems against Hussain Hani UAE 21-11 21-12 to keep his fourth seed in tact. Fifth seed Lin Ching Hung Taipei Sakamoto Rku Sure Japan Kim Jung Hoon Korea and China8217;s Wang Hao also streamlined over their lesser fancied opponents.

Similarly, Fujinuma Ai Japan, Mouma Das India, Poulomi Ghatak Ind, Li Quangbing China, Lee Hyangmi Korea, Lu Yun Feng Taipei, Lai Ka Yau Hong Kng and Zhang Fang China also made it into the second round of the girls event from the 12 groups. So also the winner of the boys section from 14 groups also moved into the next phase, which will be played later in the evening.
