
The hardline faction of Hurriyat led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani has turned down the offer of roundtable conference on Kashmir called by the Prime Minister on February 25 while the moderates are yet to decide on it.
An official of the Union Home Ministry contacted Geelani last evening inviting him to the conference but he declined the offer, a spokesman of Geelani said today.
Geelani told the official: 8220;The ongoing peace process between India and Pakistan for the last three years and talks between the Centre and some Kashmiri leaders have not changed the ground situation in the state8221;.
8220;This makes us believe that such exercises are fruitless,8221; he said.
Moderate faction of Hurriyat led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has called an emergency meeting of all three decision-making bodies of the amalgam on Monday to discuss the roundtable conference and the possibility of their taking part in it. 8212;PTI
