Senior Kashmiri separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Shabir Ahmad Shah were placed under house arrest in the wee hours of Friday, official sources here said. The two leaders were barred from moving out of their residences in order to maintain law and order in the Kashmir valley.
Geelani, who was planning to hold an anti-election rally in the Batamaloo Assembly constituency going for bypolls on October 13, said that the Jammu and Kashmir government feared a massive turnout at the public meeting and hence put him under house arrest. —(PTI)
