MUMBAI, JULY 25: Senior leaders of the Republican Party of India (RPI) R S Gawai and Jogendra Kawade were on Sunday suspended from the party for six years for “going against the decision of the party national executive and deciding to support the Congress party”.

RPI President Ramdas Athawale told reporters here that both Gawai and Kawade, members in the dissolved Lok Sabha, were suspended as per powers vested in party chief under the party constitution. He said 33 of the 51 members of the RPI executive had supported the resolution to back the NCP.
