Functions mark Gandhi Jayanti

PATIALA, Oct 2: The 130th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatama Gandhi was observed here today with various functions to mark the occasion. The main function was organised by the District Congress Committee Urban at Rajindra Tank, by garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Ved Parkash Gupta, president of DCC Urban, led the party in garlanding the statue.

Gupta, speaking on the occasion, said the Gandhian concept of life was the only option left to check everyday deteriorating standards in political and social spheres. He said Mahatama Gandhi lived for the freedom of the nation and worked for moral values. He also appealed to the youth to follow the path shown by the great leader to guide the nation in the new millennium.

Floral tributes were also paid to Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary.
