.

The BJP today sought a discussion in Parliament on the C Rangarajan Committee report on fuel pricing, likely to be submitted on February 14, before the government decides on increase in fuel prices.

Besides, the party has demanded that the Finance Ministry, SEBI and RBI come out with a White Paper listing the companies, scamsters, bankers or investors involved in the Demat scam, which it termed the biggest public issue-IPO scandal to have hit the capital market.

The party was critical of a likely hike in fuel prices. The Rangarajan Committee, set up by the Prime Minister is understood to have finalised recommendations stipulating a mix of a marginal increase in fuel prices, and duty cuts. Sources said it is likely to suggest a hike of Rs 1.27 per litre for petrol and Rs 2.18 per litre for diesel.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar told reporters that the increase, amounting to 35 per cent, ‘‘has hit the common man and the industry alike’’.

On the demat scam, BJP Investors’ Cell convener Kirit Somaiya told reporters, ‘‘It is shocking that instead of acting against scamsters, the Finance Ministry is coming out with a proposal to scrap small investors’ quota.’’ Vowing to resist ‘‘any such move to crush small investors,’’ he said the BJP would take up the issue in the coming session of Parliament.
