PARIS, OCT 27: A military attache to the French ambassador in Washington has been been transferred to the south of France, after the US detained him on suspicion of spying for India, according to an article due to appear in a newsletter on Saturday.

A military source in Paris confirmed Friday that the officer "had made a mistake which had been punished."

According to the newsletter "Le Monde du Renseignement", colonel Marc Wood sent "confidential documents concerning French-USco-operation agreements to Indian authorities".

US authorities detained Wood after they identified him as a suspect earlier this year. He was then allowed to return to Paris following negotiations with the US State Department.

On his return to France, he was given a new posting without having to face trial, according to the article."

His punishment was normal," a French military source who wished to remain anonymous said, adding "what he did didn’t warrant any further legal proceedings".
