COLOMBO, DEC 12: Suspected Tamil Tiger guerrillas ambushed a police bus in northern Sri Lanka today wounding four constables, officials said.

The attack, blamed on the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, came as policemen were being transported from Vavuniya to Thandikulam, officials said.

In another development, the LTTE, in a statement sent here from its London office, denied responsibility for a bomb attack three days earlier in a crowded market. The LTTE said the attack, in which five people died and over 50 were wounded, was a result of police “accidentally” dropping a grenade.
