VADODARA, Nov 15: For the theosophists, there is no religion higher than truth. And besides their beliefs, they also practise the ideals of the Theosophical Society in their day-to-day lives and hope to succeed some day in bringing about a not-so-conspicuous yet important change in the society where greed, hatred and run for money are not unheard of.

Every Sunday morning you would find the 70-odd members of the Society reading out chapters from various books at the Reva Lodge in Nagarwada. The books selected are not necessarily from religion. However, a particular book is chosen on the instructions of the Bhavnagar-based Gujarat Federation of the Theosophical Society, says a veteran theosophist, Bhaskar Kharod.

Experts from various fields also come and deliver lectures on their respective subjects. If these are the rituals followed religiously at the Lodge more than 50 years now, at the homes of majority of the theosophists, the day begins with meditation.

8220;It8217;s a Dharma Samaj Puja,8221; Kalpana Champaneria explains, adding that they believe in sanatan dharma. For them all religions are equal. Needless to say that caste, colour, creed and sex have no distinction for the theosophists. 8220;We try to understand the person whom we are talking to and try to imbibe in us his good qualities,8221; says Champaneria.

Then how is the behaviour different? Champaneria explains by giving an example of how she deals with her maidservant. 8220;If she makes a mistake it is certainly brought to her notice and scolded as well. However, a comparison is also drawn that if we make mistakes then we too have to face the music in our office,8221; Champaneria says.

How is it that the theosophists don8217;t lose temper soon? Champaneria has an answer. It is the mental balance, patience and the satisfaction with whatever you have that helps you, she says. However, these qualities do not mean that you become weak against others, she points out adding that it is a question of remaining between naram and garam.

Prayer and black money8217; don8217;t go together in theosophy, says Usha Patel, factory manager at Sarabhai Chemicals. A hard taskmaster when required, she says theosophy has helped her a lot in her job. 8220;Professional and personal relations are different,8221; she says, stating that her staff has the liberty to put across their points of view.
