Cops suggest 45 intersections for slip roads, PWD to build 25
Be ready for easy traffic on the left at all major traffic intersections. The Traffic Police have suggested to the Public Works Department to construct slip roads 8212; or side lanes at intersections 8212; to facilitate left turns.
And for the purpose, the department had shortlisted 45 intersections across the Capital.
8220;Wherever there is no slip road, the left-turning traffic accumulates at the junction, unnecessarily increasing the vehicular load. As a result, the traffic is delayed,8221; said the Joint Commissioner, Traffic, S N Shrivastava.
There are locations which have slip roads, but they are badly constructed. 8220;A majority of slip roads do not serve any practical purpose, as they are made too close to the traffic intersection,8221; Shrivastava said.
The Traffic Police had made a detailed presentation to the PWD to convince them of the utility of properly constructed slip roads.
The presentation included the example of the Africa Avenue Road, which has four intersections, but no slip roads. The worst-affected point on it is the intersection leading to the Outer Ring Road.
Other examples quoted by the Traffic Police include August Kranti Marg with the Outer Ring Road. There, the slip road is right on the intersection.
Of the 45 intersections, the PWD has agreed to construct slip roads on 25 which come under its jurisdiction. 8220;We will be approaching other civic agencies for the rest,8221; Shrivastava said.
At the turn from Aurobindo Marg to PTS Malviya Nagar, the Delhi Police have donated their own land to make space for the slip road.
8220;According to the suggestion of Commissioner of Police Y S Dadwal, the boundary wall of the Police Training School at Malviya Nagar will be shifted a little backwards to give space for the slip road,8221; Shrivastava said.
The Traffic Police will be conducting a further study of other intersections for the purpose.
