An Indian, who sought to transfer his power of attorney to his brother so that his sibling could marry on his behalf, has left everyone baffled here. Mahesh, who is a Hindu, is married and his wife lives with his parents in India.

He said he wanted a second wife who could live with him here and so came up with the idea, officials of the Indian Association, which helps expatriates, said here.

Mahesh told the officials that he was a bachelor and was refused leave to go to India to get married, hence he wanted his younger brother to do it on his behalf. ‘‘He told us he got the idea from friends in his labour accommodation. He was basically misguided,’’ the official said. ‘‘I am tired of being alone and want to get married again. If my wife comes here who will take care of my parents,’’ he asked, adding that he had no complaints with his present wife and that she didn’t want to divorce him either. —PTI
