AHMEDABAD, Aug 2: The two Bajrang Dal activists who were arrested for burning Bhagyodaya restaurant said in the presence of an executive magistrate on Sunday, that the fire was accidental. Both of them suffered burn injuries in Saturday evening8217;s fire.

The police has booked Bhaskar Bhatt and Harshad Gilitwala and taken into custody two vehicles found at the spot. According to the police, they had set the restaurant on fire after throwing some inflammable liquid.

Sources said Bhaskar Bhatt, in his statement, claimed that he along with Harshad Gilitwala had gone to the restaurant for a snack. While they were there, a fire broke out in which they received burn injuries. Harshad Gilitwala, who received 75 per cent burns, also made a similar statement, sources said.

But Imdadbhai, one of the restaurant partners who was at the cash counter, narrated a different story in his statement, which was also recorded in the presence of an executive magistrate. He said that two persons came to the restaurant, threw a liquid from a container and lit a match stick, causing a fire. He said the duo were burnt while they were trying to flee.
