MUMBAI, MAY 20: The ruling alliance government today hiked the fees for B.Ed. courses in government as well as private colleges from the ensuing academic year.

Briefing media persons after the weekly cabinet meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, who is currently in-charge as Chief Minister Manohar Joshi is on a 13-day foreign tour, said the fees for free seats in government as well as aided colleges has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000, while for payment seats the revised fee will be Rs 20,000 instead of Rs 12,500.

Munde said at the moment, there are 13,630 B.Ed seats in 146 colleges in the state.

Explaining the government’s move to extend financial assistance to the tribals, Munde said, the state government will soon set up a Shabari Financial Corporation for the tribals with a share capital of Rs 100 crore.

While 51 per cent of the shares will be owned by the State Government, the remaining contribution will come from the Centre. “We propose to divert some of the funds under the tribal sub-plan for the proposed corporation,” Munde added.
