NEW DELHI, August 2: There was a massive traffic jam at the Noida crossing as residents of Kalyanpuri and neighbouring areas jammed the busy road and squatted on the road to protest against the power breakdown. DVB sources claimed that the residents were irate because local complaints were not being attended. They said this was because of the `work to rule' by DVB technical staff.Traffic coming to and from Noida on the Nizamuddin Bridge and inter state traffic to and from Ghaziabad came to a complete halt following the jam. According to police officials angry residents took to the streets around 8:30 p.m. as there was a complete black out in the area since the evening. The residents were shouting slogans against the DVB as there have been frequ8ent breakdowns in the area. Some residents of Mayur Vihar and Patparganj also complained that the power supply was disrupted frequently since early in the morning and the voltage when supply was available was quite low. There was a big queue of vehicles that stretched till the Nizamuddin Bridge because of the jam. Several inter-state buses had to be diverted to the ITO bridge and many motorists complained that they were stuck in the jam for more than two to three hours. Senior police officials were at the spot trying to pacify the agitated residents, but the blockade continued till late in the night. Senior DVB and police officials were not available for comments.
