The body of a one-year-old infant, found at Canal East Road on Sunday, was identified by his father on Monday. The police suspect that the child, Indrajit Saha, was murdered because of a family dispute.
“It was his first birthday, but when I returned from work in the evening, I found my wife and the child missing. After looking for them in all the possible places, I could not find them,” said Bidyut Saha, Indrajit’s father.
The whereabouts of his wife Bulu Saha is still not unknown.
The family lives on the Suren Sarkar road in Beliaghata. Bidyut’s younger brother Satya Saha also lives in the same house.
“We suspect a family dispute behind the murder. But we cannot confirm anything until we find Bulu,” said Tapas Ganguly, Officer-in-Charge of the Beleaghata police station.
Police sources also revealed that Satya Saha is absconding.
According to locals, there had been a property dispute between the two brothers and the house was divided into two sections.
“The body has been sent for postmortem and we are awaiting the report to ascertain the cause of the murder,” said Tripurari, DC (ESD).
“The cloth that was tied around the child’s neck was knotted, which is unusual,” said an investigating officer.
Sources said there were internal injuries in the head but there was no external injury marks on the child’s body. According to sources, Indrajit’s body was found nearly 24 hours after his death.
