AURANGABAD, JAN 15: In what could be a sensational revelation of how seasoned politicians seek political vendetta, police have booked controversial former Shiv Sena minister, Arjun Khotkar, with charges of provoking Sangeeta Khilare, an independent councillor of the Jalna Municipal Council, to commit suicide. Kotkar is allegedly absconding and not likely to return until his anticipatory bail, which is likely to be filed soon, is granted by the court.
Sangeeta was found lying unattended and unconscious after being poisoned near Khotkar’s house in Jalna, on Friday, three days after she had sought former minister and his brother Anirudh Khotkar. She died two days later.
The Khotkar’s had suspected that Sangeeta despite being rewarded handsomely in advance, had during the election to the post of the Jalna municipal chief, voted in favour of the NCP-Congress candidate. The Sena candidagte had lost the election by a narrow margin of two votes in the forty four member House. The post had fallen vacant following the sudden death of incumbent, Mittuseth Dad of the Congress.
Soon Anirudh Khotkar and the Sena candidate, Dhanraj Sambre, began making rounds to Sangeeta’s house in the slum area Nutan colony. While Sangeeta, who is a Dalit insisted she had voted for the Sena Khotkar wouldn’t believe her.
She finally decided to take the matter to the police and after explaining them the background sought protection fearing for her life.
The police did provide her with two constables, but it is still a mystery where the two had been when she waled up to the Kotkar residence in Khwa Galli and allegedly consumed the poison on Friday.
According to sources, Arjun Khotkar had caused Sangeeta such mental torture that she had decided to end her life.
In the meanwhile, the Kotkars have filed a cross complaint against Congress MLA, Kailash Goryantal, who had prepared the logistics for the Congress NCP victory.
