
JAIPUR, AUG 17: Former Rajasthan MLA Prabhu Dayal Raigar has been arrested for running a brothel at Bikaner.
Raigar, who was arrested along with seven women and two men during apolice raid at a house in the Kotgate area of Bikaner on Sunday afternoon, was remanded to judicial custody on Monday. The court turned down Raigar8217;s bail plea.
According to reports reaching here, the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary had to be called out to assist the local police to control the large crowd which turned up to see Raigar while he was taken to court.
Raigar was first elected to the Rajasthan Assembly in the 1950s. He is thesecond Rajasthan ex-MLA to be caught for running a brothel. Earlier, RamKaran Singh Gujar was arrested for running a flesh trade racket in the posh Civil Lines area of Jaipur, where Raj Bhavan and the residences of the Chief Minister and other ministers are located.
According to a police spokesman, the raid followed complaints from people ofthe area that the 70-year-old ex-MLA was carrying on the racket with theassistance of a 50-year-old woman, Zulekha. They had hired three old womento draw young girls in to the racket and also solicited men for them. As thepolice raided the Kotgate area house, one of the three Army personnel being entertained inside managed to escape by scaling a boundary wall, while theother two were arrested.
