AMBALA, July 20: Former Haryana minister and Congress leader Phool Chand Mulana has urged the Punjab and Haryana High Court to provide adequate security as he feared a threat to his life.

In a petition, Mulana said that Anil Vij, an Independent MLA from Ambala Cantonment supporting the Bansi Lal government, was his potential political rival, "who had been trying his level best to destroy him".

He alleged that he informed the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ambala, about this a number of times but the latter expressed his helplessness.

The court has issued a notice and fixed July 30 for the hearing. Mulana, in his petition, said that since a petrol pump was allotted to his wife, it had become a bone of contention. Vij, he alleged, had organised a traffic blockade on the road leading to the petrol pump and raids were conducted by the departments of weights and measures and food and supplies almost daily.

The petitioner alleged that the respondent besides misusing official machinery, made phone calls threatening to eliminate him and his family. Some of the MLA’s supporters kept on creating a nuisance at the petrol pump, Mulana alleged.
