Bangalore, Dec 1: US power giant Enron had shown keen interest in setting up a power generation plant using liquified natural gas (LNG) as fuel in Karnataka, Chief Minister S M Krishna said today.

Speaking after inaugurating the energy and environment expo ’99 here, Krishna said the state government was working on the proposal with a degree of seriousness.

He said though the government was of the opinion that the project was feasible, it was concerned about perennial availability of fuel for the proposed plant as even Gas Authority of India (GAIL) too was running short of supply.

Krishna, however, said Karnataka had already taken a lead in setting up of a multi-fuel based power plant under a joint venture with Unocol and Karnataka Power Coporation Limited near Bidadi on the city outskirts.
