In the on-going festive season, there is generally an enhanced demand by people for flowers. Mostly, marigold flowers are used for puja etc in temples, gurdwaras and houses.

This was stated by the head of the Department of Landscaping and Floriculture, Dr Ramesh Kumar Sadavarti. Discussing the last years’ trend of demand-supply, he said that people sought flowers for celebratory occasions starting from Dushehra in October through Diwali, Christmas, New Year, Lohri to Valentine Day in February.

He said that although there was an adverse effect of rains and unfavourable weather in June, yet the crop of marigold that was coming to bloom will meet the demand. Dr Sadavarti said that the flower farmers, who transplanted marigold in the first week of July, as recommended by PAU experts, would be getting good crop.
