Engineering students gherao ProV-C

PUNE, Aug 24: Almost 200 engineering students third year from Pune, Nashik, Kopargaon, Baramati, Pravaranagar and Ahmednagar who assembled for a peaceful agitation at the University of Pune Tuesday morning, ended up gheraoing the residence of Pro Vice-chancellor PVC M J Sonawane by evening.

Demanding the immediate implementation of the carry over rule, the students say they are not satisfied with the University8217;s decision to submit the matter to the academic council for consideration on August 26. University officials have promised them a decision on September 6. 8220;The PVC had earlier assured us that a prompt decision would be taken on August 24 by the Faculty of Engineering at its meeting today,8221; says a student, explaining the reason for the gherao, which continued till late evening, with the bus route on the Mhasoba Mandir road blocked by the students. This agitation has been going on since August 5.
