Free as a bird, Ekaterina Dzehalevich’s lob sailed past fourth seed Yanina Wickmayer’s outstretched racket — the Belgian could only smile ruefully. It was just the beginning of the final set, but perhaps Wickmayer already had an inkling that this was just not her day. Her unseeded opponent had worked her way quietly through the draw at this $ 50,000 ITF women’s circuit tournament, but today, she let herself be heard — yelling in triumph after her 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory in the final. Wickmayer had been in impressive form all through the week, but the Belarussian snuck in through the back door today. Dzehalevich employed her backhand to great effect, putting the loss of the first set behind her as she began her comeback. Wickmayer’s frustration was reflected in the two warnings she received — one a code violation for ball abuse and another for wasting time.
