MUMBAI, AUG 21: The Election Commission (EC) has revoked its earlier orders of disqualifying Chandrika Kenia from contesting polls, sources in the Maharashtra election office said here today.

Kenia, who had contested the 1998 Lok Sabha elections from Thane on a Samajwadi Party ticket, was earlier disqualified by the Election Commission for not furnishing the details of her poll expenditure.

Kenia, a former Congress Minister and Shiv Sena MP in Rajya Sabha, had appealed to the Commission to revoke her disqualification and the EC granted it exercising its discretionary powers, sources added. Meanwhile speculation was rife in political circles that the Congress would be fielding her from Ghatkopar assembly constituency.
