EC gearing up for Lok Sabha polls

After completion of the assembly polls in five states, the Election Commission is preparing for the Lok Sabha elections early next year.

The Commission on Tuesday held a meeting with officials from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore to discuss about “some of the unique problems and find out solutions” with conduct of elections in the metropolitan cities.

The EC conducted a day-long workshop to discuss issues connected with conducting elections in metropolitan areas, an EC official said.

Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of the six states also attended the meeting, he said.

The Commission has just concluded assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram and the elections in Jammu and Kashmir are nearing completion.

The tenure of the present Lok Sabha is to end in mid-May and a new House has to be constituted before that.
