Mid-fielder Kieron Dyer will be given until the final deadline to prove his fitness and book his place in manager Sven-Goran Eriksson’s World Cup squad, England coach Steve McClaren said on Monday.FIFA have given teams at the finals until midnight Zurich time on Tuesday, equivalent to 7 AM on Wednesday in Sogwipo where England are based, to provide their 23-man squad lists.Asked about the knee injury which Dyer suffered while playing in Newcastle United’s season-ender against Southampton on May 11, McClaren told reporters: “It’s a just a case of assessing him each hour, each day. “He’s progressing well.considering it’s only a week on, he’s made remarkable progress.“I think what Sven’s looking to do is to give as much time as possible to the injured players and, right on the DOT, leaving it until then to name the 23. “Right to the last possible moment, he’s giving everybody the chance to prove themselves.”Leading the list of injured players is captain David Beckham, who is aiming for England’s opener against Group F rivals Sweden on June 2, after breaking a bone in his foot last month.“He’s still on course, going well,” McClaren said. “The medical team are very pleased with him.” Beckham trained as scheduled on Monday, while Dyer and Nicky Butt, who is recovering from a knee injury, continued their separate rehabilitation programmes.
