PUNE, June 2: An appeal seeking to stay the implementation of Regional Transport Authority’s norms on ferrying of school-going children in autorickshaws was made today by Rickshaw Union.

A delegation of Rickshaw Union affiliated to Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) today met divisional deputy commissioner V S Ohol and appealed that implementation of RTA norms on ferrying of schoolgoing children in three and six-seater autorickshaws should either be withdrawn or stayed for the time being.

It may be recalled that the traffic police have decided to take stringent action against autorickshaw operators violating norms laid down by the RTA.The delegation has suggested that a committee consisting of representatives of autorickshaw unions and State Government be appointed to discuss the issue.
