PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti today criticised the BJP for exploiting the move to scrap POTA and release militants in Kashmir for the Gujarat Assembly elections.
Teh PDP leader said that the efforts in Kashmir were part of a larger plan to bring back peace in the strife-torn state and there was no politics involved in it.
Talking to The Indian Express, she said it is unfair of the BJP to raise POTA in elections. ‘‘Why make Kashmir the battleground in Gujarat? It is not in national interest,’’ she said.
Mehbooba met PM Vajpayee in Delhi today to discuss the economic package for J-K. She complained that J-K had been kept out of drought relief.
Responding to the Centre’s demand for a screening committee to review the release of militants, the PDP leader said: ‘‘The Centre has its agencies in the state. It is only after taking them into confidence that the state government releases the prisoners.’’
