VADODARA, April 21: The Council for the Protection of Human Rights of Slum Dwellers will prepare a documentary film on the fundamental rights of more than 300 slum settlements in Vadodara.

Dhiru Mistry, one of the members of the newly formed Council, said there are an estimated 3 lakh people staying in the slums. The Council has been formed by various organisations working for the poor and the deprived.

Among the Council members are: Peoples Union For Civil Liberties PUCL, Shishu Milap, Swashray, CITU, Dalit Sangram Samiti, Womens Studies and Actions Group, Narmada bachao Andolan NBA, Sahiyar, Vadodara Kamdar Union, Parivartan and KAJ.

Mistry said apart from organising area meetings and public programmes, the Council will hold consultations with the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC and the Government to regularise slums.

Workshops will also be organised to create legal awareness among slum dwellers. He further said that eminent citizens would be involved to bring about a solution on the issue of slum dwellers.
