Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guellah announced plans to open an embassy in New Delhi to promote ties between the two countries. Meanwhile, New Delhi extended a US $ 10 million Exim Bank line of credit and has also promised humanitarian assistance worth a million dollars to Djibouti in the grip of a drought.

The two countries have signed an agreement to cooperate in civil aviation sector and have agreed to promote bilateral investment as well as boost cultural exchanges.

Djibouti has supported India’s candidature for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council.

President Guellah welcomed Vajpayee’s peace overtures to Pakistan and promised to cooperate with New Delhi in the war against terrorism.
