Dharmendra’s marital status to be poll issue: Cong

The Rajasthan Congress today said that Bollywood star and BJP candidate from Bikaner Dharmendra’s marital status would be a poll issue as he has not mentioned his wife’s name in the affidavit filed yesterday.

State Congress election committee chairman Nawal Kishore Sharma told reporters here that not filing the ‘‘correct’’ affidavit and ‘‘avoiding’’ wife’s name were ‘‘gross violation’’ of the EC guidelines. The Congress would complain to the EC on the issue and seek clarification on Dharmendra’s marital status, he said.

Asked whether the Congress would demand rejection of Dharmendra’s nomination, Sharma said: ‘‘It is upto the returning officer to decide. But our demand will be to disclose his wife’s name in the affidavit.’’
