CHANDIGARH, June 28: Accused of being involved in a kidnapping case, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar vice president Bhai Kanwar Singh Dhami has moved an application for anticipatory bail before the Punjab and Haryana High Court here.
In his bail plea, Dhami has stated that he was quot;sought to be arrestedquot; in FIR number 200 of 1999 registered with Police Station Mehta in Majitha district under Section 363, 368 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, quot;even though he was not named in the samequot;.
Dhami8217;s counsel Ranjan Lakhanpal stated that the applicant quot;had not been assigned any role in the alleged offencequot;. The petitioner was being sought quot;only to harass him as he was the vice president of SAD Amritsar which was opposing the present government in the State of Punjab led by SAD Badalquot;. The police, the counsel added, had raided the petitioner8217;s house on June 24 quot;to arrest him in the said FIRquot;.
Claiming that quot;no useful purpose would be served by arresting the petitionerquot;, the counsel stated that he was ready to join investigations. Further, nothing was to be recovered from him.
It may be recalled that the FIR was registered after the complainant, in an application to the Senior Superintendent of Police of Majitha district, had alleged that quot;a fraud had been committedquot; and his sister8217;s children quot;had been lostquot;.
