A day after Chief Minister Ajit Jogi offered unconditional talks with Naxalites, the Peoples’ War Group retaliated with a powerful landmine blast today, killing three CRPF jawans and injuring a Deputy Assistant Commandant.
The mine was planted hardly 10 km from Narainpur, proposed to be made the district headquarters of a new tribal district. The Naxalites hid in a nearby forest, after the jeep carrying the jawans was blown to pieces, and opened fire on Deputy Commandant Mathew, who was travelling in a separate vehicle.
The jawans killed in the blast were returning to their camp at Antagarh after VVIP duty. Governor Lt General (Rtd) K.M. Seth was in the area and police had placed the CRPF on high alert. It is in this area the Naxalites had done a dry-run before with the assassination bid on Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
