A team of Crime Branch officers have been put on high alert to take charge of Dawood Ibrahim8217;s key lieutenant Tariq Parveen after his deportation from Dubai late Monday evening.

According to senior Crime Branch officers, Parveen8217;s main job was to coordinate with businessmen in Mumbai and Dubai about transfer of funds through the hawala route. He is also said to have a major stake in the illegal sand trade in and around the metropolis, say sources.

From a mere tout, Parveen rose to become one of Dawood8217;s lieutenants in Dubai. He jumped bail and escaped from the country in 2002. Parveen8217;s wife flew to the city late last week. JCP Crime Dr Satya Pal Singh said Parveen had surrendered before authorities in the last week of June.
