
NAGPUR: The 12th All Maharashtra Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society’s (AMOGS) conference would be held in the city in February 1998. According to a press note issued by Dr Nirmala Vaze, president, Nagpur Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Dr Sunita Ghike, a special committee is instituted to organise this special event under the guidance of senior gynaecologist Dr Mangala Kolwadkar as Chairperson. Prof Dr Chhaya Sarodey, Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Government Medical College, is the Organising Secretary, while Dr Pramila Asolkar is the Convenor of the conference. Other members of the organising committee are: Co-chairpersons-Dr Manorama Purwar and Dr Shakila Khan; joint organising secretaries Dr Yamini Alsi and Dr Ujwala Deshmukh, treasurer Dr Sudha Damle, joint treasurers Dr Vaishali Kubde and Dr Lata Iyer.
Govt grant for road repairs
NAGPUR: Repairs of internal lanes and concretisation of roads will get priority in the distribution of the Rs 20 crore special grant sanctioned to Nagpur city by the State Government. Beautification of the city gets the second priority. Guardian Minister Nitin Gadkari gave this information at a meeting of top officials held at Ravi Bhawan today to take stock of the plans prepared by various agencies to spend the special grants. It was attended by Mayor Devendra Phadnavis, Chairman of the NMC Standing Committee Vitthal Bhede Municipal Commissioner J S Saharia, NIT Chairman Shrinivas Patil and Police Commissioner T Singaravel. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will get Rs 11 crore from the grant and the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) will get Rs 7.85 crore.
Goa culture awards presented
PANAJI: Chief minister of Goa Pratapsingh Rane, presented the state cultural awards to ten personalities, for the year 1995-96, in recognition to their contribution towards art and culture on Saturday. The awards consist of a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each a replica of Lord Natraj, a certificate, shawl and shrifal. The recipients of these prestigeous awards are Chandrakant S Keni and Jairam Pandurang Kamat in literature, Murai G Mhamai and Nagesh K D Kundekar in craft, Anant S Naik and Krishna B Masheldar in music, Hermengildo Camilo alias H Britton and Narcinva B Naik lfor drama, Chandrakant Parsekar in folk art and Arun D Parwatkar in photography.
