NEW DELHI, May 19: The All India Group D Federation of Central Excise and Customs Officers went on an indefinite strike yesterday.

They are demanding a higher pay scale and five promotions during the service career amongst other things. According to the federation spokesperson, the stir would be intensified if their demands were not met. According to him there was already an order by the Central Administrative Tribunal, Jodhpur, recommending the increased pay scale, but the board has not implemented it.

The federation has decided to hold a mass rally of its members on June 1 — the day the union budget is presented.
