They call themselves makeover artists. But don’t go by the name, they’re doctors — cosmetic surgeons. And for a crater-sized hole in your pocket, they can give you a new look, with surgery that’s minimally invasive, making not more than a few punctures and stitches on your skin.

As 40 plastic and cosmetic surgeons from across the globe converged at a hospital last week, the topic of discussion was the gradual phasing out of the cosmetic surgeon’s knife — the needle has arrived. President of the Indian Association of Cosmetic Surgery Dr Vijay Sharma and his team managed a coup of sorts — the first-of-its-kind live cosmetic surgery workshop here — with the surgeons doubling as medical subjects, hopping on to the operation tables while their colleagues assessed the effectiveness of every puncture.
