
MUMBAI, July 28: Cash and jewellery worth Rs 4.88 lakh was stolen from a flat at Malabar Hill on Sunday night. Pushpa Narendra Bhatia, the NRI owner of the flat, had gone to Muscat leaving a key with her servant Suresh, to clean the flat regularly.
But the servant opened the cupboard and decamped with the booty. The Malabar Hill police is looking into the incident.
Man killed
An unidentified man was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Vashi-Turbhe road in the early hours of Sunday. The vehicle sped off after knocking down the victim who died on the spot. According to the police, the 60-year-old man was a beggar. A complaint has been lodged and the APMC police are looking into the matter.
Gawli’s associate
Ranjan Parulekar, an associate of ganglord Arun Gawli, succumbed to his injuries on July 26 after he was shot at by rival gangster Chhota Shakeel’s gunmen at Agripada on July 8. Parulekar was shot outside his Milind Nagar residence at Agripada by two unidentified gunmen. The Agripada police said that Parulekar died of bullet injuries while he was undergoing treatment at BYC Nair Hospital. According to sources, Parulekar (30) told the police before his death that Chhota Shakeel’s lieutenant Sadiq was involved in the shootout. The shooting could be a fallout of his enmity with the Dawood Ibrahim gang, sources added.
Copper stolen
Copper plates worth Rs 16 lakh have been stolen according to a complaint lodged at the Nhava Sheva police station in Navi Mumbai. Paramjit Singh Sardar Singh Saren, the complainant, had sent a truck containing more than 12 tonnes of the plates to New Delhi on July 11. According to him, the load has not reached the destination even after two weeks and no information regarding the whereabouts of the vehicle or the material has reached him. The suspects, driver Balbir Singh and cleaner Ashok Kumar, are absconding.
