Fire breaks out in bank
A fire broke out at the Bank of Baroda, Girdharnagar branch on Monday afternoon. Old records and furniture worth Rs 25,000 were destroyed in the incident. However, fire brigade workers put off the fire soon. Short circuit is said to be the reason behind the mishap.
Remand term
Metropolitan Magistrate S J Sheth extended the remand of the five persons accused of killing doctor Sonia Modi, for another four days till October 23 here on Monday. The accused are in the custody of city crime branch police. The five charged with murder of Modi, on May 17, are Ashok Modi, Nitin Shah, Arvind alias A G Singh, Dharmendra (alias Dabloo) Ramswaroopsingh Rajput and Girish (alias Chimno) Ravat.
Robbery
In a robbery case in the city, four unidentified persons robbed Rs 2.5 lakh from one Suresh Radhakishan Vanida on Sunday. According to police, Sureshbhai, a resident of Panchnidhi Apartment, Naranpura, runs a business of exchange of old and torn currency notes on Ashram Road. On Sunday night, he put his collection of Rs 2.5 lakh in a plastic bag and went home. When he was about to get into the lift of his flat, three persons rushed there and snatched the bag from him and injured him with a razor and then ran away in a Maruti car. When Sureshbhai raised an alarm, his brother Kamleshbhai chased the fleeing robbers but the miscreants aimed a revolver at him.
