CALCUTTA, Nov 15: The West Bengal unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) has decided to organise a state-wide demonstration to protest against the recent Supreme Court ruling upholding an earlier order of Kerala High Court banning bandhs. Speaking to The Indian Express, Manju Kumar Majumder, the secretary of the State council of CPI, said, "We regret that the court ruling has taken away the workers’ right to protest, while the managements’ right to close any unit is not challenged." The CPI has decided to go ahead with state-wide demonstration against the order on November 26 and a demonstration and meeting would be followed by submitting memorandums to the district courts’ judges.

About launching a nation-wide protest, Majumdar revealed, "We may take it up at a later stage. However, we have invited the trade unions and other Left parties to join us in the protest demonstration on 26th."
