VADODARA, March 30: Cutting across party lines, councillors of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC on Tuesday came down heavily on the administration for its alleged failure to attend the problem of water contamination in various parts of the city.

Raising the issue in the General Board, BJP councillor Indravadan Modi said that for the last one month the VMC had not been able to solve water contamination problem faced by Gujarat Housing Board residents in election ward number 1.

Councillors of ward number 18 former Deputy Mayor Bhupendra Patel and Rekha Pancholi also complained that several societies, including Ashoknagar, Nilkanth, and Parisnagar, among others, were getting contaminated water for the last two months.

Ruling BJP councillor Pradip Joshi, who locked the auxillary pumping station, said several societies, including Someshwar, were getting contaminated water for the last fortnight as the pumps were not running regularly.

Joshi held the previous Congress Board responsible for the drainage coke ups saying that pressure lines have not been laid in the sewage pumping stations.Congress councillor Aziz Dangiwala said that if councillor of Sama could lock the pumping station, residents and councillors of Wadi should be given a certificate for putting up with the problem for so long. Dangiwala said that for the past two years several areas in election ward number 25 have been facing drainage choke ups, resulting in water contamination.

Dangiwala stated that even during Id the residents of Bawamanpura, Bakri Pole and other areas got contaminated water. He regretted that the VMC has failed to initiate action despite several representations.
