
VADODARA, Feb 4: An international conference on Maintenance, Inspection, Corrosion, Materials, Engineering and Plant Reliability8217; MICMEP-99 was inaugurated at the IPCL auditorium here on Thursday. In his inaugural address, IPCL Director finance N Chandar suggested delegates and technocrats to give a serious thought to cost effective quality control.
Stating that eco-friendly and corrosion-resistant materials were the need of the future, he underlined the need for research and innovations for successful transfer of new and advanced technology to industries in order to boost industrial and economic development of the country further.
Addressing the gathering, M S University Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane advised the scientists and engineers to keep track of the rapid developments taking place in the field of engineering and technology so that the country was at par with other nations and successfully meet future challenges. 8220;There is no scarcity of resources in the country, what is required is it8217;s proper and timely use,8221; he observed. In his presidential address, Placid Rodriguez appreciated the work carried out by the Vadodara chapter of Indian Institute of Metals and described it as a model8217; for other chapters.
IPCL Director Operations S K Anand paid tributes to founder of Vadodara chapter of IIM Kishore Kumar. Earlier, the conference was dedicated to the memory of late Kishore Kumar by conference convener K B Pai. Kumar8217;s widow was also honoured and presented a shawl on the occasion.
