MUMBAI, June 1: An independent corporator from in Chunabhatti, north-east Mumbai, Mahadev Pawar, was arrested by the Kurla Police for allegedly beating and abusing a driver working with the municipal corporation.

The police arrested the corporator based on the complaint filed by the driver, Lahu Dhondu Jambhavadekar. The police said that the trouble started when the driver was dumping garbage at Kurla, where he picked a quarrel with the corporator. The quarrel, initially at a verbal level, turned serious when the corporator abused and slapped the driver.

Police said it was a result of a bitter argument between the corporator and driver before the incident. The driver has sustained severe injuries on his right ear and has been admitted at the nearby Rajawadi Hospital.
