Corporate cold shoulder to AC local train idea

Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation has received a lukewarm response from the corporate sector to its query on introduction of air conditioned coach trains in the city.

Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has received a lukewarm response from the corporate sector to its query on introduction of air conditioned (AC) coach trains in the city. MRVC, the agency, responsible for improvement of rail infrastructure of the country’s commercial capital, had distributed the forms at various corporate offices including banks like State Bank of India, ICICI Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland.

It had distributed 10,000 forms to various banks and corporate offices. “Until now, we have gotten responses from only 2,000 people,” informed MRVC Chief Operations Manager Prakash Rao Vazalwar. “In some cases, only two forms were filled with a message that this is the opinion of the entire organisation,” he added but did not divulge the name of the organisations from whom unenthusiastic responses had been received .

MRVC has been asking for feedbacks from commuters on whether special AC coach trains should be introduced in Mumbai’s suburban rail services.

“Our target was the commuters travelling in the first class compartment. We have also taken feedbacks from people randomly. But we also wanted to know the views of the corporate world as we believe that if AC coach trains are introduced, middle rank executives might switch to trains for daily commuting,” explained Rao.

Middle and top management executives prefer to use their own vehicle rather than travel in first class train compartments.

In spite of the lukewarm response from the corporate sector, MRVC still hopes that the corporate sector would use AC rail services in the longer run. “After AC trains are introduced, we feel that the corporate sector might start using it as executives can have a comfortable journey and even cut down on time,” added Vazalwar.
