Hours after a bomb blast killed one and left 23 persons injured in Sarai market of Mehrauli on Saturday afternoon, the police suspect a local hand behind the incident.

Sources said several people, who the police called 8220;bad characters8221; from adjoining areas, were detained for questioning. 8220;There are vital clues that point towards the fact that some local/locals, well-versed with the area, is behind the blast,8221; an officer said. 8220;The modus operandi suggests that.8221;

A senior officer of south district confirmed that some locals are being interrogated to know more about the mysterious blast. 8220;The way the bomb was left, bomb ingredients and other evidence collected from the spot indicate that a local mind was behind the plan,8221; the officer said. 8220;But we are investigating it from all angles.8221;

Joint Commissioner of Police Southern Range Ajay Kashyap also said the probe would cover 8220;every angle8221;. He said, 8220;I would not be able to comment any further at this point of time 8212; an NSG team was called and further investigations are on.8221;

Meanwhile, police sources said they suspect Thursday night8217;s incident in which a motorcyclist was killed following what witnesses called a 8220;deafening sound8221; could also be a blast. The incident occurred near Qutub Minar, and police at the time had called it a case of 8220;firing8221; at the motorcyclist 8212; Sanjeev, alias Bablu 8212; though locals insisted it was a bomb.

8220;The postmortem found no bullet injuries,8221; the source said. 8220;Evidence that came up during investigations of that case and today8217;s blast have a lot of similarities, which has forced us to look at it from a new angle.8221;
