
CHANDIGARH, July 22: The Chandigarh Administration today decided to engage a professional consultancy firm to suggest a plan for the development of land and its optimum utilisation in the periphery of the Union Territory.
A decision to this effect was taken by the Administrator, Lt Gen B.K.N. Chhibber retd, while reviewing the progress of various ongoing projects during his visit to the UT Secretariat today. The rising incidents of land encroachment in the periphery area and its unplanned growth have been a major area of concern for the Administration, in light of which this decision was taken.
Chhibber asked the Administration to ensure the development of the periphery according to the basic plan of the City and in consensus with development in the satellite towns of Panchkula and S.A.S. Nagar.
He asked the Adviser to draw up a coordinated plan in this regard and seek cooperation from the neighbouring states for its effective implementation.The Adviser, Jagdish Sagar, apprised the Administrator of the progress of various ongoing projects. Chhibber asked the Adviser to identify those pockets in the City which were facing the problem of rain water disposal system. He also urged work on improving the drainage system of these areas on a priority basis.
Chhibber asked the Administration to improve all the incoming and outgoing roads from the City to Punjab and Haryana and ensure that the unauthorised structures on these roads were removed and cleanliness maintained.
Chhibber emphasised on the need for accelerating the development process in the third phase sectors, especially Sectors 48 to 52. He asked the Administration to draw up a time-bound plan for expeditious development of these sectors and of small modern colonies in the periphery sectors.
Emphasising on the need for launching a cleanliness drive keeping in view the onset of the rainy season, the Administrator directed the Administration to provide the necessary help to the Municipal Corporation to streamline the garbage collection system in the City.
It was also decided to expand the fleet of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking to ensure efficient bus service, especially between Chandigarh and its satellite towns. Home Secretary Anuradha Gupta briefed the Administrator about the progress of Kalagram, being set up at Chandigarh by the North Zone Cultural Centre NZCC, Patiala.
