SANGLI, NOV 15: Congress would not hesitate to withdraw its support to the United Front, if the Jain Commission report was not brought before the Parliament in the ensuing winter session, leader of the Congress party in Lok Sabha Sharad Pawar said here, yesterday.

Congressmen strongly felt that the elements behind assassination of their leader be brought to book, Pawar said, adding that they were very much rigid on tabling the report in the Parliament. He was speaking to reporters after a function commemorating 80th birth anniversary of former Maharashtra CM Vasantdada Patil. He, however, refused to comment on the findings as reported in the media, and expressed unhappiness with the Centre’s stance on the probe in Rajiv assassination.

He also avoided a comment on UF convener Chandra Babu Naidu vowing to back the Dravida Munnetra Kazagham, the Front’s partner from South.

Claiming that Congress was ready to face the mid-term poll, Pawar stated that it would be fighting against different parties in different regions.Earlier, speaking at a rally, Pawar pooh-poohed the Shiv Sena -BJP Government’s claims about giving remunerative prices to cotton growers. The alliance government has cornered the cotton and cane growers in the State, he added.

The former Maharashtra chief minister also reiterated his skepticism over SS-BJP Government’s claims on impounding State’s share of Krishna waters by the year 2000 and alleged that a saffron plant to impound Krishna waters was mired in corruption.

On the BJP’s recent coup in UP, pawar noted that it had rather shattered the Bharatiya Janata Party’s claims on politics of probity and integrity, albeit the BJP was contemplating a few political permutations to grab power in New Delhi.
