The Congress today demanded that the BJP apologise to the people for not fulfilling the promises made in its election manifesto.
Reacting to the BJP’s claim that the forthcoming Assembly elections would be contested on the strength of NDA Government’s achievements, Congress spokesman Anand Sharma said: ‘‘It is an exercise carried out to mislead the electorate.’’ Sharma added, ‘‘It also tantamounts to questioning the wisdom of the people, who see through the real intent and character of the BJP.’’
Calling the NDA government ‘‘a failure on all fronts’’, he said: ‘‘Its five-year rule has been marked with non-performance, economic recession, scams and scandals.’’
‘‘People feel cheated and betrayed. Therefore, the BJP will be better advised to apologise for having not delivered on the past promises as stated in its poll manifesto.’’
