GURDASPUR, Jan 3: About 400 Christians held a meeting, here today, which was presided over by Salamat Masih, convenor, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Minorities Cell. The meeting condemned the incidents of violence against the Christians in Gujarat.
The BJP government was criticised for its alleged failure to safeguard Christians and their churches in Gujarat.
The speakers at the meeting said that such incidents of violence posed a threat to democratic set-up of our country and peaceful co-existence of different communities.
The meeting demanded the sack of the BJP government in Gujarat and an assurance to the Christians for their safety and their religious places. The meeting also decided to hold a massive protest rally to protest in Gurdaspur on January 19 which would be presided over by P.A. Sangma, former speaker of the Lok Sabha. Former union minister Sukhbans Kaur Bhinder and PPCC chief Capt. Amrinder Singh will also attend the proposed rally.
