VADODARA, Aug 10: A section of the city unit of Congress staged a dharna in front of the Gandhi Nagar Gruh here on Monday against the alleged misrule of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the State as well as Centre and took out a rally from Jubilee Baug area to the district collectorate.

About 100 people, carrying banners condemning the atrocities on minorities and demanding a check on inflation, took part in the rally.

The dharna began around noon under the leadership of party district president Prabhatsinh Parmar, Member of Legislative Assembly Khumansinh Chauhan, City president Ashwin Shah and women leaders including Minakshi Fand, Nila Shah and Prabha Trivedi. A section of IPCL dalit workers’ unions also joined the stir.

According to party sources, though it was decided to take up only the issue of alleged atrocities on minorities in the State, the leaders, while addressing party workers, also came down heavily on the BJP for its alleged failure in various issues like deteriorating law and order, spiralling prices of essential commodities and greengrocers’ strike, leading to scarcity of vegetables.

They threatened to intensify the stir if the State government failed to take timely measures.

The party workers later took out a rally and submitted a memorandum to the District Collector Anil Mukim demanding immediate action.

Meanwhile, former vice-president of State Youth Congress Pankaj Patel told Express Newsline that separate meetings would be organised next week to chalk out action plan at the district level.
