Cong report on Naxal menace soon

The Congress will bring out a comprehensive report on the Naxal menace in Orissa including the socio-economic, political and administrative aspects, AICC in-charge for Orissa Ajay Maken said on Sunday.

Expressing shock and anguish over the incident of Naxal attack and violence in Nayagarh, he criticised the state BJD-BJP Government for failing to take preventive action. In a release on Sunday, he expressed dismay over the lack of preparedness even in the wake of earlier incidents of Naxal attacks in Koraput and Udaygiri. “The Government seems to have lost the legitimacy to rule and govern,” said Maken.

There were many incidents of state violence against “rightfully” agitating farmers, communal violence in Kandhamal and growing Naxal insurgency, even as the Government remained “complacently closeted in dubious industrial deals”, he said. This pointed towards a much deeper malice of non-governance rather than a mere law and order issue, he added.
